Hello Saints! is a reflection on the life of a Jesuit, Fr. Al Bischoff. Not a biography, but a legacy, this book examines the gift of presence that he brought to his ministry. “Hello Saints!” is the greeting he uses at every encounter as an affirmation of the holiness of each person and an invitation to believe this identity. The work considers how God uses our weakness to provide strength to others. More people than we imagine have experienced serious childhood trauma. Fr. B is among them. By accepting the poverty of his woundedness, claiming his True Self as beloved, and trusting in the slow work of God, he has been transformed from brokenness into freedom. That’s the Gospel he proclaims. Fr. B became a beloved and effective pastoral minister, accompanying generations of university, high school, and parish communities. Personal testimonies of those whose lives have been changed by their encounters with Fr. B help to tell the story. This text presents a model for future ecclesial ministers. It can also be a self-led retreat in an easy-to-read narrative for anyone. Finally, it is a prayer of gratitude for all those pastoral ministers who have accompanied us on our pilgrimage!
